Presentation: Pissing People Off With UFOs: UFO Communities as Counter-Culture in the 21st Century

UFOs piss people off, and that’s good. Acting as a curious push against mainstream cultural ideologies, UFOs challenge the ideas of what we collectively¬†understand to be “normal.” TED flags UFO related talks, most mainstream media outlets continue to berate UFO news, and many skeptical academics rally against anything remotely connected to the phenomenon. In this lecture, we briefly explore why UFOs are potent agents of change and how they encourage people to look at the world in a way that challenges the status quo.
